Taking a young puppy for a walk can be a start and stop affair! Puppies love to sniff everything and mark everything and will often stop dead when they encounter something unfamiliar to them. If this sounds like your puppy, I recommend you start dog training early and initially use a harness rather than be constantly pulling on the puppy’s neck or throttling him with a slip collar.

I have a timid female cat and recently put a cat flap in. Unfortunately other cats are now coming in. I have chased cats out and they haven’t come back, but one cat in particular just will not get the hint. I once even cornered him and poured a jug of water on him but he’s been back. Are there any tried and tested (humane!) ways of getting rid of the unwanted cats?

I have tried twice to bring a second cat into the home. My 9 year old cat, Katy will become depressed and urinate on shoes and throw rugs every time. I end up finding a home for the second cat and after a week or so Katy returns to her old self, using litter box and wanting affection. My question is, are there some cats that will never tolerate another cat in the home?

I feed wild birds throughout the winter for the fun of it and don’t want to quit feeding them, but a hawk keeps killing them. I live in a semi-rural area in Southern Ohio and love my birds. The feeder is near my kitchen window (15ft) and the Hawk swoops in from field and scares the birds. Normally birds fly into the window and the hawk picks them up and carries them away. It has killed over 8 birds and it has left 2 birds to die on my deck. …

I have two female cats; they are both spayed. Every once in awhile it seems like every cat in the neighborhood comes to visit them. One of our cats, Kitty, also gets in the habit of peeing on things inside the house during this time. She doesn’t do anything else that makes it seem like she’s in heat. Even though they’re spayed, might one of them be attracting other cats? Is Kitty marking her territory? Any suggestions? I can deal with the cat visits but not the …
